Walkabouts & Bikeabout

In October and November 2007 we brought residents as well as bicycle and pedestrian advocates out on the streets in each study area to make observations about their design. Study Area 1 is around the Lincoln/Cypress Gold Line station. Study Area 2 is on the east side of the Chinatown Gold Line station and is referred to as the Ann Street neighborhood.

In a nutshell, the walkabouts and bikeabout revealed lots of room for improvement. But room for improvement means lots of opportunities for these areas.

Ann Street Walkabout
• Better crossings
• Longer signals
• Paint the crosswalks
• Better placement of buildings to create a pedestrian-friendly environment
• Fix the sidewalks, bus stops, and landscaping
• Fix the curb cuts
• Reduce pedestrian/car conflicts

Lincoln/Cypress Walkabout
• Improve signals, crossings, and bus stops
• Better intersection design
• Better placement of buildings to create a pedestrian-friendly environment
• Fix sidewalks and landscaping
• Remove sidewalk and other barriers
• Reduce pedestrian/car conflicts

Ann Street & Lincoln/Cypress Bikeabout
• Add bike facilities
• Calm traffic
• Implement road diets
• Fix poor street design
• Reduce bike/car conflicts
